The Best Bets: Which Horses to Bet on the Upcoming Kentucky Derby 2022

  • July 18, 2022

The pandemic set back a lot of things in the world. The sports industry wasn’t spared from those setbacks. Yearly events were canceled, and a lot of people were disappointed. Thankfully, better days are coming, and the world is slowly getting back up. Now, sports events are back and are much better.

One sports event that fans truly missed was the Kentucky Derby. Although it was only postponed during 2020, the event went on another date without a single person in the stands and bleachers. Fast forward to 2022, people are slowly getting back to their normal lives, and stadiums are starting to get filled.

If you find yourself in the stands during the Kentucky Derby, then there’s a good chance you’ll be betting on the horses. Since more than ten horses are participating, choosing can get a bit confusing. With that said, here are some of the best horses participating in this year’s Kentucky Derby. Hopefully, some of the info in this article will help you decide on which horse has the most significant chance of winning.

Classic Causeway

Fresh off a win in the Sam F. Davis Stakes, Classic Causeway is off to a good start. Classic Causeway quickly made the front early. With a challenge from an equally good Little Vic, Classic Causeway made a confident hand ride in the last stages of the race, sealing a convincing victory.

Classic Causeway is owned and bred by Kentucky West Racing LLC. He is also owned by Clarke M. Cooper, who owns impressive horses such as Back Ring Luck and Quiet Secretary. Brian Lynch supervises the horse’s training. Classic Causeway is a good pick if you want to bet on the best live horse racing contenders.

Pappacap

Owned by Mark Casse, Pappacap is one of the best horses to come out of Rustlewood Farm. This strong contender’s next start is on February 19, 2022. Pappacap’s lifetime earnings are more than $500,000. In 6 starts, two first-place finishes, two second-place finishes, and one third-place finish, Pappacap is already at an impressive pace at a young age. Pappacap is a colt and is bay-colored. He was born in Florida on March 22, 2019.

This horse’s bloodline is impressive. Pappacap is Gun Runner’s son. Gun Runner has won multiple races and is a sensation among the racing circle. He is also out of Pappascat, a mare from Al Qasr. With such a pedigree, bettors won’t have to worry about the stamina that Pappacap has.

Epicenter

Epicenter is a force to be reckoned with in the racing circles. With one of his previous two wins at the Fair Grounds, the young horse drew off any real threats in the race. He glided over and finished the race without any serious challenge even coming close. However, his latest race was marred by a come-from-behind win from Call Me Midnight. Although he lost that race, Epicenter was touted to win convincingly.

Don’t let that get you down, though. Epicenter is promising and developing well. He’ll show once again at the Risen Star Stakes on February 19, 2022, why he’s a good pick. Epicenter is Ron Winchell of Winchell Thoroughbreds. The horse was bred at Westwind Farms. His jockey is Joel Rosario. Steven Asmussen handles the training with Epicenter.

White Abarrio

White Abarrio was off to a bad start. The horse missed some workouts last January after getting sick. After a quick recovery, White Abarrio proceeded to silence his naysayers. The horse began his debut in the Holy Bull Stakes, which was the strongest prep race for the Kentucky Derby. As the race progressed, White Abarrio pressed the pace. After taking just six furlongs, White Abarrio’s path to victory was clear.

In that race, White Abarrio scored a convincing victory over Simplification and Mo Donegal, two horses that were impressive in previous races. White Abarrio is owned by the C2 Racing and La Milagrosa Stables. The horse was bred at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky. White Abarrio is trained by Saffie Joseph and is ridden by Tyler Gaffalione.

Mo Donegal

With two first and third-place finishes, Mo Donegal was one of the best picks to win the Holy Bull-G3. Though he was upset by White Abarrio, Mo Donegal remains to be one of the best horses to bet on. He already has more than $200,000 in lifetime earnings.

Irad Ortiz did a great job as a jockey in his last start with the horse. Mo Donegal is trained by Todd Pletcher and is owned by Donegal Racing. The horse was bred at Ashview Farms and Colts Neck Stables. Mo Donegal’s parents are Uncle Mo and Callingmissbrown, two horses with impressive pedigrees as well.

Conclusion

Now that sports events are back, people can see races and enjoy them. If you’re confused about who to pick, the five horses mentioned above are great picks. With speed, excellent training, and impressive stamina, horses like White Abarrio, Mo Donegal, Pappacap, Classic Causeway, and Epicenter will surely impress.
