Mohammed Ali was a boxing genius. Fast as lightning in the boxing ring, Ali won 100 fights out of 105 during his amateur days. As a pro boxer, he took out all his first 19 opponents, with 15 as knockouts. Altogether, he won 56 fights out of 61 as a pro and recorded 37 knockouts in his lifetime. Furthermore, Ali was a world heavyweight champion three times and was fond of directly challenging champions just to strip them of their titles.

His career earned him the presidential citizen’s medal, a medal of freedom, and the Ottohan Gold medal of peace. Mohammed’s reign as champion began at 22 and he’s perhaps the only sportsman to call himself the greatest. Without a single doubt, he’s one of the greatest sporting successes and will never be forgotten.

• Michael Schumacher

In the world of formula-1 racing, Micheal Schumacher’s name is certifiably unforgettable. Schumacher has won the racing championship seven times, and that’s a record for the most number of wins. Even more, he has won the championship 5 times consecutively. He also completed 77 laps in the fastest time and became the 92-time Grand Prix winner.

That’s not all. In a season, Michael won 13 races which happen to be the highest won by any racer. Altogether, in his time, he was the highest-paid sportsman for an extended period. Statistically, the formula-1 website named him the greatest driver and that’s no surprise.

He was so popular that he became a household name and not just for his basketball skills. Thanks to endorsements from sports brands such as Nike, the popular air Jordan design became a must-have for both sportswear-lovers and fans of designer footwear and apparel.

Even more, ESPN named Jordan 20th century’s greatest athlete. His exceptional basketball skills earned him a stint as NBA champion six consecutive times. He also won the NBA’s most valuable player award five times. To date, his name still echoes in the basketball hall of fame.

• Tiger Woods

Tiger was to Golf what Messi is to football, he was a natural and it was evident. The golfer went pro in 1996 and in less than a year became number one. Eighteen different times, Tiger made a “hole in one”, which you’ll understand is a big deal if you understand the game.

With 14 majors and 79 PGA tournament wins, he held the record for the highest major, and PGA tournament wins. From August 1999 to September 2004 Tiger was number one. Even between the period of June 2005 to October 2010, when his domestic problems became public, he was number one.

That’s not all; Tiger is currently the youngest player to win 50 golf tournaments and make a grand slam, which he did three different times. Woods has won the PGA player award of the year and for ten seasons, making him one of the leading money makers in the industry. Sports betting crews smiled to the bank as long as Tiger was on the course. For several years, he was the highest-paid athlete and the all-time highest-paid.
