Top Tips for Beating the Bookmakers

  • July 18, 2022

I’ve been betting for well over 20 years and during that time have experienced many high and lows as a punter. I’ve made an awful lot of mistakes but also learned some invaluable lessons in how to beat the bookmaker and make a long term profit from gambling online. In this article I will share some insight in how you too can become a profitable punter.

1. Track your bets

The single most important piece of advice I can offer to any punter is to track your bets. If you have no intention of making a long term profit and just bet for fun or entertainment, then this isn’t that important. However if you want to make some money from this hobby, then keeping a record of all your wagers is essential.

I’ve found when keeping track of my betting activity I am far less likely to make careless bets. Every bet is important, and ensuring you don’t fritter away a few quid here or there will play a bit part in ensuring you finish the month in the green.

2. Follow Betting Tipster

As gamblers we are very opinionated. We may here something on the radio and TV which we pick up and convince ourselves it will help us land winning bets. We may have our own favourite teams or players that we back far too often regardless of the odds. Very few of us our experts when it comes to betting online. When you are betting with the bookmakers you are taking on their very own team of experts who spend hours trying to get the odds correct. So the chances you can take them on single handily and win, is almost impossible.

So seek advice of tipsters. There are so many out there these days and often they specialise in 1 sport and often 1 type of market. For instance, in recent seasons the evolution of the card tipster in football has been huge on twitter. Tipsters who will only tip on the card markets and they have had great success. These tipsters will be spending all their time focusing on these individual markets, thus offering you much betting advice and insight than you can possible give yourself.

There are lots of good free tipsters out there. Here at Betting Kingdom I have always been proud of the fact that this site has offer free betting tips for so many years and good ones at that. You can also pay to follow betting tipsters. There is no guarantee this will make you more profit, but paid tipsters often take a more professional approach and the investment can be well worth it in the long run.

3. Take advantage of Free Bets and Bonuses

If you are new to gambling then this is one of the first steps you should take. Bookmakers will welcome new punters with a range of sign up offers and promotions to entice you to join their site. As a punter you are not limited to how many bookmaker accounts you have. I know many gamblers who are put off by the fact of having multiple bookmaker accounts. The truth is, the more bookie accounts you have, the more chance you have of returning a long term profit. So sign up to as many as you see fit and take advantage of the free bet welcome offers to give yourself a good head start.

4. Multiple Bookmaker Accounts

That leads me nicely onto point number 4. As mentioned above the more accounts you have, the greater your chance of making a long term profit. The main reason for this is that it’s allows you to get the best odds on your wagers. If you start following betting tipsters, they will always seek out the best price to maximise their return. If you don’t have accounts with the leading online bookmakers, then you won’t be able to get the same odds as the tipster. That means your returns will be lower and your long term profit won’t match that of the tipster.

When you are tracking your bets it can be helpful to include a column to note which bookmaker you have used for each bet. This way you can go back and check they have settled your bets correctly. This does happen. I’ve had winning bets mistakingly settled as losing wagers and unless you keep a record and check, there is no way of knowing when a mistake like this might happen.

5. Keeping Your Betting Accounts Active

This has become a bigger problem over the past few years and one I’ve had real issues with. I’m banned or limited with around 66% of the bookmaker accounts I registered for. They don’t like winning punters. Bookies are spending more time and resources to spot winning gamblers quickly and therefore reduce their losses. Sadly it’s part of the industry. As punters we need to find ways around getting our accounts closed.

One good method is to place types of bets that will keep the bookmakers on your side. The occasional accumulator, betbuilder or visit to their casino is likely to suggest to them you could become a losing punter. It might make a small dent in your overall profit, but if it means keeping those accounts open it’s like to prove beneficial in the long run.

If you do want to try out and of the online casinos then you can view a list of the best 25 online UK Casinos here. Many of the bookmakers have their own Casinos and that will allow you to lose a few quid each month and hopefully keep your name off the black list.

Summary

I really hope this article provides you with some useful hints at becoming a profitable gambler. I’ve had my success down the years. I’ve never been a big gambler and always kept my stakes down, but I won enough to pay for a trip to Barbados and buy myself a new card. Even now with limited bookmakers account I’m currently ÂŁ500 in profit this month. It can be done. Bet Smart and earn yourself some pocket money whilst having some fun along the way.
