Aintree Wounded Warrior - each way

Horse racing - Aintree - 08 Apr 17:15

Great days Racing at Aintree tomorrow for National Day. In the National itself I like two horses at massive prices. The first is Wounded Warrior, who I think is ridiculously overpriced by firms. This is a very good horse on his day. He finished third in an RSA, second in the Champion Novice while he's also a Grade two winner. He also has a notable scalp of the 2016 winner of this race Rule The World. He thrashed him by 9 and a half lengths off level weights. I think Noel Meade has always thought of this horse as a dour stayer - I recall him being mad at himself for not going for the 4 miler in his novice days. I think he's a massive improver for this marathon distance.

This horse is also owned by the Gigginstown House Stud - responsible for last year's winner Rule The World. I backed last year's winner and I think this horse has a very similar profile. He has been quiet this season but he's been slowly building up to a big prize. This horse is a son of Shantou and I think the better ground he will encounter here at Aintree could spark the revival. This horse admittedly arrives in bad form but as a result this has saw his mark tumble and could it be he has been laid out for the race?

It was only 3 starts ago he ran in the Lexus & 2 starts ago where he was only just behind Pleasant Company and Rogue Angel both of whom are half the price of Wounded Warrior today. Baffling to say the least when our horse is probably the most suited to this marathon trip. Given his novice form, I just think 66/1 is far too big especially in this National which is lacking well handicapped horses this year.
