Home advantage plays a dominant part in South American football due to the severe contrast in landscape. This |
| |
especially helps home sides because many South American sides enter continental competition with little |
| |
experience due to the majority of the clubs' quality in each respective country entirely depending upon whether |
| |
their young stars are sold to European clubs or not so this often leaves inexperienced sides traveling to difficult |
| |
away games. |
| |
|
|
Racing claimed a 2-2 draw in Colombia from the first game, leaving them with the advantage of the away goals. The
|
| |
onus is on Atletico Junior to take the game to the Uruguayans so the hosts are able to counter the visitors very |
| |
easily, something that was indicated in the first leg. |
| |
|
|
Atletico Junior are a poor side in their own country when playing away games, let alone in continental competition. |
| |
Atletico Junior didn't win any of their nine away games in their most recent Futbol Professional campaign, losing |
| |
seven times and drawing twice. |
| |
|
|
Colombian sides do not travel well in this competition, something perfectly illustrated in last year's Copa sides with |
| |
Libertadores proper. There were a total of nine away games played in the Copa Libertadores last year for Colombian |
| |
the Colombians losing five out of their seven games outside of Colombia, drawing once (Independiente Medellin's |
| |
stubborn defensive display at Sao Paulo) and winning once (Boyaca Chico winning at lowly Aurora Cochabamba in |
| |
Bolivia). The other two away games were both in Colombia between two Colombian sides and interestingly resulted |
| |
in draws each time. |
| |
|
|
No Colombian side has won on Uruguayan soil in the Copa Libertadores since 2005 where ironically Atletico Junior |
| |
Barranquilla won 1-0 at Club Nacional de Montevideo. The Colombians in general have lost the lion's share of their |
| |
trips to Uruguay in the Copa Libertadores and I see little reason as to why this record won't continue tonight. |
