The Crowne Plaza Invitational returns to Colonial which is a relatively short course at 7,000 yards. The par 70 course is tight and will suit players that can shape the ball both ways.
Kenny Perry has done very well in this event in recent years landing the title in 2005 and 2003. He also finished T2 in 2002. Perry has been playing very well recently making 10 straight cuts. He was right in contention at the Players Championship until a poor final round saw him finish T15. Last week he went even closer losing out in a playoff to R.Imada. With such good memories in this event Perry can shake off those disappointments with a win at Colonial.
Steve Flesch is a proven winner on Tour having landed 4 titles including two last season. One of his tour wins came in this tournament in 2004 and he missed the cut just once in his last eight appearances. His recent form has been good rather than spectacular finishing in the top 30 5 times in his last 6 starts. In this spell he recorded a T5 finish at the US Masters which will have given him the belief he can contend with the big name players. |
