The Sydney International is staged during the second full week of January just seven days before the Australian Open takes place. It is staged on hard courts and many of the world's leading players use the tournament as a warm up to the years first Grand Slam.

The current sponsors of the event are Medibank so it may be referred to as the 'Medibank International'. There are 32 players in the tournament which is staged at Sydney International Tennis Centre. The current champion is Dmitry Tursunov from Russia.
