The ATP event in St.Petersburg is officially called the St.Petersburg Open. It is staged at the Petersburgsky in Russia. The centre court has a 12,000 capacity. The event takes place in late October and attracts the leading players seeking a place in the end of season Tennis Masters Cup.
The St.Petersburg Open first took place in 1995 and is played indoors on carpet. There are 32 players in the main draw of the tournament. Marit Safin has won the tournament twice in recent years. The current champion is Andy Murray who defeated Fernando Verdasco in the final. |
