The Rome Masters is regarded by many people as being the second biggest clay tournament in the world behind the French Open. The tournament take place during either April or May. It's official name is the Internazionali di Italia and was formally called the Italian Open.
It was first held in 1930 and become an Open tournament in 1969. Rafael Nadal won the tournament three years running between 2005 - 2007 but suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Juan Carlos Ferrero in Round Two. Novak Djokovic took full advantage landing the title. |
