The Monte Carlo Masters is part of the Tennis Masters Series on the ATP Tour. It is a men's tournament which is held in Monte Carlo, Monaco. The tournament is held in late April or early May and is played on clay courts. The history of the event dates right back to 1897 when it was first staged.
It became an open event in 1969 and is the main draw consists of 56 players. In recent years the tournament has been dominated by clay court specialist Rafael Nadal. He has won the title four years running beating Roger Federer in the final in the last three years.
