The Hamburg Masters is part of the ATP Masters Series. The event takes place in Hamburg, Germany in May. It takes place on clay courts and attracts a very strong field including most of the world's highest ranked tennis players.

The tournament was formally known as the German Open and the centre court has a capacity of over 13,000. Roger Federer has won the event on three separate occasions in the past five years. The current defending champion is Rafael Nadal who won the title for the first time in his career.
