The tournament in Halle is officially called the Gerry Weber Open and takes place in Germany. It is one of few events to be played on grass. There are 32 players in the main draw. The Gerry Weber Open was first staged in 1993 and takes place in Mid June.

The tournament takes place two weeks before Wimbledon and so many players use it as a warm up event. This includes Roger Federer who has won the Gerry Weber Open on four consecutive occasions. Each time he has been victorious he has gone on to win at Wimbledon as well.
