The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. In 2005 a staggering 134 countries took part in the competition There are 16 teams in the elite group. The tournament is done on a knock out format. Ties take place over 3 days, a Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Each tie consists of 5 matches, 4 singles and 1 doubles. Each match is 5 sets long. If a team wins the first three, securing the victory, the final two matches are best out of three sets. The women's equivalent to the Davis Cup is the Fed Cup. The current champions are USA. |
