The Chennai Open is one of the first events to take place on the ATP each season. It takes place in Chennai, India. There are 32 players in the main draw and matches are competed on hard courts at the SDAT Tennis Stadium which has a 5,800 capacity.

In recent years the tournament has been dominated by individual players. Carlos Moya has won twice and finished runner up. Paradorn Srichipahan has a superb record in Chennai winning the event in 2003 and reaching the final on three other occasions.
