The ATP event in Bucharest is officially called the BCR Open Romania. It takes place a week after the US Open in mid-September. As a result of this many of the leading players do not play in the event making it one of the lesser tournaments on the ATP Tour.

The BCR Open Romania has 32 players in the main draw with matches being played on clay courts. It is one of the last events to be played on clay in the tennis calendar. The current champion is Gilles Simon who claimed his second ATP title beating Victor Hanescu 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the final.
