The Auckland Open is currently sponsored by Heineken so is often referred to as the Heineken Open. It was first held in 1956. The tournament is played in Auckland, New Zealand at the ASB Bank Tennis Centre. It is played on Rebound Ace hard courts.
The event is staged a week before the Australian Open and as it is played on the same surface many players use it as a warm up to the first Grand slam. There is a field of 32 players each year. Dominic Hrbaty has won the event on two occasions in recent seasons and also finished a runner up in 2003. |
