Filippo Volandri was born on September 5th, 1981 in Livorno, Italy. He turned pro in 1997 and has won two titles on the ATP tour. His first tournament victory came in 2004 at St.Poelten. In May 2005 he reached a career high ranking of 28th.

In September 2006 he reached the final in Bucharest but unfortunately lost. He made up for the defeat later that month winning in his home country at Palermo. He beat Nicolas Lapentti in the final. Volandri has never progressed beyond the third round of a grand slam, a feat he achieved at Roland Garros.
