Thomas Johansson was born on March 24th, 1975 in Linkoping, Sweden. He turned pro in 1994 and has won 9 titles on the ATP Tour. He started playing tennis at the age of 5. His biggest win in his career came in 2002 when he defeated Marit Safin in the final of the Australian Open.

Johansson's victory in Melbourne made him the first Swedish tennis player to win a grand slam since Stefan Edberg. Later in that year he suffered a knee injury which ruled him out for the whole 2003 season. Since then he has bounced back winning twice and reaching the semi-finals of Wimbledon.
