Fernando Gonzalez was born on July 29th, 1980 in Santiago, Chile. He started playing tennis at seven and became the world junior number one. He turned pro in 1999 and has won 7 ATP tournaments. He is regarded as one of the hardest hitters in the men's game.

Gonzalez played in his first Davis Cup match at 17 years old. He won his first tournament in 2000 in Orlando. In 2002 he became the number one player from Chile and won his second tournament. His best year came in 2005 when he won three tournaments and reached the Quarter Finals of Wimbledon.
