Marc Gicquel was born on March 30th, 1977 in Tunisia. He turned pro in 1999 and has yet to win a tournament on the ATP Tour. Gicquel began playing at the age of seven. He was a late developer into the game and studied for a degree up until the age of 24.

He then decided to concentrate on his tennis and spent several years playing second division French Tennis. He progressed through the game and in 2006 reached the 4th round of the US Open. His best surface is indoor hard and his strong points are his serve and forehand.
