Gaston Gaudio was born on December 9th, 1978 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He started playing tennis at the age of 6 and turned pro in 1996. He is known for being very inconsistent, producing spells of brilliant tennis followed by periods of complete self destruct.

In 2000 he became a regular on the ATP Tour. He won his first tournament in 2002 in Barcelona without dropping a single set. In 2004 he collected his only grand slam victory at the French Open. In the final he was two sets to love down and faced three match points.
