David Ferrer was born on April 2nd, 1982 in Javea, Spain. He turned pro in 2000 and has won four tournaments on the ATP Tour. He is regarded as a very strong clay court player and reached the Quarter Finals of the 2005 French Open before losing to Rafael Nadal.

Ferrer broke into the world's top 10 for a short period in 2006. This was helped by his victory in Stuttgart where he beat Jose Acasuso of Argentina in the final. He started 2007 well with an excellent win over his fellow countryman Tommy Robredo to win in Auckland.

He then landed the Swedish Open in Bastad. Ferrer played some of the best tennis of his career losing just seven games from the quarter Finals onwards. He thrashed Nicolas Almagro 6 - 1, 6 - 2 in the final.
