Steve Darcis was born on March 13th, 1984 in Liege, Belgium. He turned pro in 2003 but it was not until 2007 that he made an impact. In just his third event on the ATP Tour Darcis won in Amersfoort. At the time he was ranked 297 and had to win three matches just to qualify.

The win was a huge shock as Darcis has never even won a match in a Grand Slam. However in March 2008 he proved his victory was no fluke when he landed his second title on the ATP Tour in Memphis. In the final he defeated Robin Soderling.
