The World Championship is the finale of the snooker snooker season. It is by far the biggest event with more ranking points on offer and the largest prize fund. Matches are played over a much longer distance. The first round matches are best of 19 frames which is more than most ranking finals.
 
 
RECENT HISTORY
 
The World Championship was first played in 1927. It takes place in April each year and receives live coverage on the BBC. The current champion is Ronnie O'Sullivan who landed his third World championship title beating Ali Carter 18 - 8 in the final. Both finalists had a 147 on route to the final.
