| The Pot Black Cup was first introduced as a TV program in the late 1960s. It was a round robin format with one match over a single frame being played each week. At one stage it became the second most popular program on BBC 2. After several years away the tournament was reintroduced in 2005. |

| In 2007 the Pot Black Cup was staged on the 6th October with BBC giving the event live television coverage. Eight players took part in the event with a straight knockout format, each match consisting of just one frame. Ken Doherty won the title thanks to wins over John Higgins, Graeme Dott and Shaun Murphy. |
