The Pot Black Cup was first introduced as a TV program in the late 1960s. It was a round robin format with one match over a single frame being played each week. At one stage it became the second most popular program on BBC 2. After several years away the tournament was reintroduced in 2005.
 
RECENT HISTORY
 
In 2007 the Pot Black Cup was staged on the 6th October with BBC giving the event live television coverage. Eight players took part in the event with a straight knockout format, each match consisting of just one frame. Ken Doherty won the title thanks to wins over John Higgins, Graeme Dott and Shaun Murphy.
