The Northern Ireland Trophy was first played in 2005. It was an official ranking event for the 2006 - 07 season and takes place in November. It is the first major snooker tournament in Northern Ireland and the tournament conisits of 48 of the world's best snooker players.
RECENT HISTORY
The tournament takes place at Waterfront Hall in Belfast and hads a prize fund of over £200,000 with the winner taking £30,000. The current champion of the event is Stephen Maguire whod defeated Fergal O'Brien in the final by 9 frames to 5. Maguire had excellent wins over Shaun Murphy, Peter Ebdon and Ding Junhui on his way to the final.
