The Oaks Stakes is a Group 1 race for three year thoroughbred fillies. The race takes place in early June is held at Epsom Downs. It is raced over a distance of 1 mile, 4 furlongs and 10 yards (2,425 meters). It is named after the Earl of Derby's estate 'The Oaks'. The race first took place in 1779 and has grown in popularity ever since.
