The HSBC World Matchplay is an annual event held at Wentworth in England. It first took place back in 1964 and in recent years it has grown in stature. The tournament has recently been moved from October to September. 16 players compete in a knock out format with over 36 holes.

The winner now receives £1,000,000. The field is decided by a qualifying process rather than invitations. The defending champion and world number one gain entry, plus players that have performed well in the four majors. The tournament will be not be held in 2008.
