The Mercedes Championship is the opening event on the PGA Tour season. It takes place on the first weekend of January. The event is contested by players who won a tournament the previous season. It first took place way back in 1953.
Since 1999 the Mercedes Championship has been staged at Kapalua Resort Plantation Course in Hawaii. It boasts one of the largest first prizes of the whole season. Stuart Appleby won the event three years running. However in 2008 it was Daniel Chopra who emerged as surprise winner. |
