The BMW Championship is the flagship event on the European Tour. It was formally called the Volvo PGA Championship but changed its name in 2005. The tournament takes place at Wentworth, Surrey, England. The course was modified by Ernie Els in 2006 to provide a tougher test.
The event takes place in late May and receives live coverage on BBC television making it very popular amongst all golf fans. The event carries one of the biggest prize funds of the year. In 2006 it was €4,250,000 and as a result it attracts one of the strongest fields in Europe. |
