Scott Verplank was born on July 9th, 1964 in Texas, USA. He had an excellent amateur career and attended Oklahoma state University. In 1984 he won the US Amateur and a year later won the Western Open on the PGA Tour whilst still an amateur.

In 1986 he turned pro and has not really fulfilled his full potential. He has won three more times as a professional but has been steady rather than outstanding. Verplank suffers with diabetes and in recent years has had several injuries which have haltered his progress.
