David Smail was born on May 20th, 1970 in Hamilton, New Zealand. He turned pro in 1992 and has been New Zealand's second best golfer behind Michael Campbell He plays his golf on the Japanese Tour and has won a number of tournaments in recent years.

You may occasionally see Smail playing in European Tour events or even major championships. In 2006 he played in the Open Championship but failed to make the cut. He also played in two more European Tour events but with little success.
