Vijay Singh was born on the 22nd of February 1963 in Lautoka, Fiji. He turned pro in 1982 but was then later banned from the Asian Tour His ban was after a misunderstanding marking a players scorecard. He then took a job as a club pro in Borneo where he practiced hard.

He won his European Tour card through the qualifying school and won his first tournament in 1989. Singh is renowned for spending hours and hours on the driving range hitting golf balls. The practice paid off as in 2004 and 2005 he spent 32 weeks as the World's Number 1 ranked golfer.
