Phil Mickelson was born in San Diego, California on June 16th 1970. He is nicknamed lefty because he plays golf left handed. He attended Arizona State University and became the first left hander to win the US Amateur in 1990. He also won a professional event before turning pro.

In 1992 Mickleson did turn professional and won his second tournament a year later. Despite winning tour events on a regular basis it wasn't until 2004 that he won his first major, the US Masters. A wrist injury ruined Mickleson's summer but he bounced back to win the Deutsche Bank Championship beating Tiger Woods in the final round.
