Shaun Micheel was born on January 5th, 1969 in Orlando, USA. He attended Indiana University and turned professional in 1992. He struggled in his early career and was not a regular on the tour. He had a few wins in the 1998 Singapore Open and on the Nationwide Tour in 1999.

It was in 2003 that Shaun Micheel made a name for himself. He went into the US PGA Championship ranked 169th in the world but this did not stop him lifting the trophy on Sunday. His shot into the final green, a 7 iron to within a foot of the hole, has been described as one of the best ever in a major.
