Peter Lawrie was born on March 22nd, 1974 in Dublin, Ireland. In 1996 he was the Irish Amateur champion and turned pro the following year. He spent a year playing the Asian Tour and three seasons on the Challenge tour. He made his breakthrough during the 2002 season.

Peter Lawrie finished that year ranked 4th on the money list including a victory at the Challenge Tour Grand Final. The following season he finished 56th on the European Tour wining the Rookie of the Year. Despite not winning since, he has always finished in the top 100.
