Zach Johnson was born on February 24th, 1976 in Iowa, USA. He went to Drake University before turning pro in 1998. He started his career by playing on the smaller tours in the USA. In 2001 he won the final three tournaments of the season on the NGA Hooters Tour.
He progressed onto the Nationwide Tour and in 2003 won the money list with record earnings. On his first full season on the PGA Tour he had his only tour win to date, the Bell South Classic. He plays the game with an unusually strong grip which looks awkward but is very effective.
