Peter Gustafsson was born on August 17th, 1976 in Sweden. He turned pro in 1999 with a handicap of plus 4. He made 5 unsuccessful trips to Q-School. In 2004 he was a member of the Challenge Tour and finished just one place (16th) outside winning a spot on the European Tour.

However Gustafsson soon made amends by winning the qualifying school by three shots. As a result he was a rookie on the European Tour in 2005. He lost out in a playoff in the Open de Espana and came second in the Omega Masters. These results saw him finish the year 46th on the order of merit.
