Mathias Gronberg was born on March 12th, 1970 in Stockholm, Sweden. He turned pro in 1990, two years after becoming the Swedish Boys Champion. He was a member of the European Tour between 1994 and 2003. During this time he won four tournaments, the last in 2003.

Despite his excellent performances in Europe, Gronberg was always keen to play in America. He had six unsuccessful trips to the Q-School until he won it in 2003. However his results in America were never very impressive and decided to return to Europe for the 2007 season.
