Retief Goosen was born on the 3rd February 1969 in Pietersburg, South Africa. At the age of 16 his amateur career took a set back when he was struck by lightning. He recovered and turned pro in 1990. He has won a tournament every year since 1995. In 2001 he joined the PGA Tour.
He soon became known for his calm demeanor. This earnt him the nickname 'The Iceman'. He shot to fame when he won the 2001 US Open. He missed a 3 foot putt on the 18th for victory but went on to beat Mark Brooks in a playoff. Then three years later he won the US Open for a second time. |
