Simon Dyson was born on December 21st, 1977 in York, England. He has a successful amateur career and was runner up in the 1999 English Amateur. In the same year he won the Finnish Amateur and played in the Walker Cup team. It was later that year that he decided to turn pro.

He started his pro career on the Asian Tour and in 2000 he won three tournaments and finished top of the order of merit. The following year he joined the European Tour and has been a member ever since. In 2006 Dyson won two tournaments in Europe.
