Shane Bertsch was born on March 30th, 1970 in Colorado, USA. He was a promising young tennis player but gave up after losing to Andre Agassi. He decided to focus on golf after that and turned pro in 1994. He spent two years on the PGA Tour in 1996-97 but really struggled.

He has won twice on the Nationwide Tour. His second victory in 2005 helped him to finish 8th on the Nationwide Tour rankings. This meant he returned to the PGA Tour for the first time since 1997. Unlike his first two years he managed to finish inside the top 125 and retain his place on tour.
