The Australian Grand Prix is normally the first race of the Formula One season. It is currently held at Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit in Adelaide. The race was first held in 1928 and has been part of the F1 Championship since 1985. It takes place in March and is raced over 58 laps.
In 2006 over 300,000 spectators attended the race. Michael Schumacher has won the race on four occasions and McLaren have been the most successful constructor with 8 wins. The current champion is Lewis Hamilton who won an incredible race where only 6 cars finished. |
