Boavista play in the BWINLIGA in Portugal. They were founded in 1903 and play in a black and white checkered shirt with black shorts and socks. Boavista play their home games at the Bessa Stadium in Porto which has a capacity of 28,263. They reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals in 2003.

They had an excellent run in 2002-03 before losing to Celtic in the semi-finals. The year before they had reached the second group stage of the Champions League knocking out Borussia Dortmund in the previous group. They then came 3rd behind European giants Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
