Switzerland set a new record in the 2006 World Cup by being the first team to be knocked out of the World Cup without letting in a goal. In addition to this they also set a World Cup record for being the only team to fail to score a single penalty in a penalty shoot-out.

Switzerland have reached the quarter finals of the World Cup three times in 1934, 1938 and 1954 but have failed to get passed this stage. They have only qualified for the European Championships twice in the tournaments history but got knocked out in the first round both times.
