Macedonia played their first match in 1993. Before this Macedonian players played for Yugoslavia's national football team. Macedonia are currently going through their best era as an International team currently placed at their highest FIFA ranking.

Macedonia finished 5th in their World Cup Qualifying Group. From their twelve matches they gained nine points. They beat Armenia twice and were the only country to take points of Holland, holding them to a draw in both their matches. More recently they have drawn with England at Old Trafford.
