Liechtenstein are considered one of the weakest teams in Europe losing their first 20 World Cup qualifiers breaking the run with a great draw against Portugal. Four days later they posted their first ever World Cup qualifier win and first away win winning 4 - 0 away to Luxembourg.

They also had good results at home against Luxembourg and Slovakia. From their twelve qualifying matches for the 2006 World Cup they won two, drew two and lost eight. They accumulated eight points and scored 13 goals finishing second from bottom.
