Italy are the second most successful national side having won four World Cups. They also won a European Championship and one olympic gold. Italy have also finished runners-up twice losing out to Brazil the first time in 1970 and the second in 1996 when they lost out in a penalty shoot-out.
Italy are current World Champions after winning the 2006 World Cup. The competition didn't start well with a lot of talk about the Italians match fixing scandal. Italy managed to top the group with an impressive 2 - 0 win over the Czech Republic. |

| Italy then cruised to the semi finals with wins over Australia and Ukraine but had their toughest test to come with hosts Germany in the semi's. Italy managed to win 2-0 with the two goals coming in the last two minutes of extra time. Italy then won the final 5 - 3 on penalty's to win their fourth World Cup. |
