Egypt were the first African country to qualify for a World Cup back in 1934. They have managed to only qualify for one World Cup since then. Egypt's greatest achievements have come in the African Cup of Nations which they have managed to win six times in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006 and 2008.
In the 2006 African Cup of Nations Egypt finished top of their group with 2 wins and a draw. After beating Angola the last eight they thrashed Côte d'Ivoire 4 - 1 in the semi finals. They then won their six title beating Cameroon by a single goal in the final. |
