Canada have qualified for the World Cup once back in 1986 where they failed to score a single goal. They have qualified for the Gold Cup seven times. They were knocked out in the first round on five occasions in the Gold Cup but managed to win it in 2000 and finished third in 2002.

Canada had a very poor 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign after beating Belize 8 - 0 on aggregate in the first round. They then had to face Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras in the semi final group phase. They finished the group in last place on five points.
